Fuel costs are one of the largest operational expenses for rail transport. The cost of the energy acquisition for one freight locomotive is from $700K to $1,2M per year. To address this problem, OptiRail Ltd. has developed the Smart Automatic Train Operation (SATO) system. SATO is an universal automatic control system for freight and passenger trains with electric or diesel traction. It can be provided as driving assistant system (DAS). Its benefits include:

  • Reduced energy costs for hauling up to 25% or up to $250 000 – for each locomotive each year
  • Reduced operations costs of the railways operator up to 10%
  • Reduced annual carbon emissions by up to 300 tonnes for each locomotive
